My wife and I adopted a cat from a local humane society - we wanted a companion cat for our one at home and a cat that would be more my cat, as our first one is more tethered to my wife. The cat was previously feral and had just been brought in. She was in a cage by herself as she was recovering from a respiratory infection and was about to be spade.
She is a lot more active than our first cat, which in and of itself is okay, she just requires a bit more play. However we’ve had her 3 months and every chance she gets she chases, attacks, and hisses at our other cat. We tried introducing them, separating them for days and re-introducing them, calming collars, the whole 9 yards. She is pretty sweet when it’s just me and/or my wife, but when the other cat comes in, if she’s not distracted by something, she goes for him.
With that being said, we have to give her up for adoption. I am devastated - I know we tried everything we could and she wouldn’t acclimate to being around another cat; but it still hurts so much knowing I have to give her up. I tried everything.
For anyone who has had to give a cat/pet up before, how was that for you? How long did it take you to get over it? Our bearded dragon passed last year and that hurt a lot. This sort of feels similar to a loss.
