Hey guys... so one of my close friends loves reptiles just as much as I do. They are very kind and caring and knowledgeable about herps. However, in the past 8-ish months, they have purchased and caught a ton of reptiles and I'm wondering what you guys think. Are they becoming a hoarder? Here are their current herps they have and have had in the past months, along with the gallon sizes:
- Ball python, 20 gallon
- Female Kenyan sand boa, 10 gallon
- 2 baby Kenyan sand boas, male and female, both in the same 10 gallon
- 2 wild caught Dekay's brown snakes... one dead, one in a 10 gallon
- Wild caught 8 ft long bullsnake, 40 gallon. (I begged them to let it go and they refused for months, it was finally released about 5 months later.)
- Baby blood python, 10 gallon
- Female bearded dragon, 40 gallon
- Female veiled chameleon, 30 gallon vertical glass terrarium
- 2 baby fat tailed geckos, both in 1 10 gallon
- 2 wild caught box turtles (Ornate and two-toed), both in outdoor pen
- Chubby frog, 5 gallon
- Curly haired tarantula, 3-ish gallon
- Several fish and other spiders
Other than some of the cages being small and catching wild herps, the husbandry is good and the cages are cleaned. Is this still considered hoarding, or just impulse buying? How can I help my friend?
I own a lot of herps myself, but I do not cohab and I make sure their care is the best it can be before buying more.
