Hi, everyone. Hopefully a post like this is allowed. I'm thinking about getting a young adult or adult beardie sometime in the next year, and I wanted to design and build my own bio-active enclosure, give the beardie the space it deserves and start the relationship off on the right foot. I've been doing a fair amount of reading and video watching on proper care, but I still want to see if someone can help me with some feedback on the enclosure. So, I've attached some drawings and renderings I made to convey what I'm envisioning. Hopefully they are legible and easy to understand. The first sheet depicts overall dimensions and lighting specs. The dimensions and shape are reflective of the only current space I can fit a properly sized tank. The others are just renderings. Please note that the husbandry in the renderings was limited by the programs scenic objects and isn't finalized. My main concerns are with the UVB and basking lights and overall size. I have sized a 46" D3 T5 12% UVB light and a 150W dimmable basking light, but I'm unsure if this is too much or not enough. To my understanding, there should be a vertical gradient of sorts for both lights to allow the beardie plenty of choices for proper basking and UVB absorption. I have about 20" of space between the substrate and the light fixtures. Is this too much space to ensure proper UVB levels? Not too worried about the basking light; this can be monitored with the dimmer and temperature gun before putting the beardie in the enclosure, but feedback would still be of great help. Any other feedback or critiques are absolutely welcomed. [link] [comments] |
