What non-European reptiles would fit well in a naturalistic Mediterranean terrarium setup ?

I'm looking for some options for a future terrarium. I would like to make a naturalistic Mediterranean terrarium (with lots of rocks and relatively dry climate plants), but I would like to house a species that prefers cooler temperatures rather than hot desert ones because the plants wouldn't like it and I would prefer to have something different than the classic bearded dragons or leopard geckos anyway. And the climate would be slightly more humid than actual desert too. Of course I considered European species as it sounds obvious (Jeweled lacertas in particular because they are amazing pets), but they are illegal to keep in my country since native species are strictly protected and I can house only exotic species in captivity.

I would like to have a relatively terrarium with a lot of horizontal AND vertical space (probably at least 90 cm wide by 45 cm deep and 90 cm tall), so ideally I would prefer a species that loves climbing. I would also enjoy it if the reptile can be friendly, interactive and easily handleable but it's not absolutely necessary.

Do you have suggestions ?
