So a couple of weeks ago, this guy was found by a local landscaper outside (Florida) when he accidentally clipped his tail while pruning bushes. The guy identified the animal with google lens because he had no idea what it was, he said he thought it was an alligator lmfao. He asked around to try and find the owners and had no luck, so he posted in a local community fb group where a friend of mine offered to take the animal. He had been in a 5 gallon bucket, bleeding all day and was in dire need of help. Worth mentioning it had been below freezing and very wet for several nights before this. Friend then called me because I have dragons and she doesn’t, so here I am. He has a vet appointment in about a week. It’s so hard to find an exotic vet around here and they’re all booked way out all the time. The vet seemed to think he would be okay until then as long as he was behaving as a dragon should. He is the coolest dragon I’ve ever met. He has no interest in being in his tank, ever, which I imagine is how he ended up accidentally outside. He’s perfectly content to roam, snuggle on my shoulder, or bask in a window. He’s fat as hell. Like, serious sideboob when he pancakes and the chubbiest little legs. He’s on a diet and getting lots of exercise lol. I’m following the vets directions for keeping his tail clean and treated: Warm soak every other day, wash his tail only with antibac soap. Dry well and treat with vetrycin + antibiotic ointment daily. Keep his tank super clean and simple. He’s eating and drinking like a champ and seems happy despite the nub! What a story! This is Outback. Named after my Subaru I just totaled, chosen to match our other vehicular-inspired baby dragon, Ferrari. Also because he was found out back. And is Australian. But what’s up with the squiggly tail? Asked the vet and obv they can’t tell me anything until we do x-rays. Should I be more concerned than I am, despite his behavior? Worth rushing off to the emergency vet (whom I’m pretty sure has little experience with reptiles)?
