Species Suggestions?

I would like to start looking into what kind of reptile, specifically a type of lizard, that would suit my wants best. I'm not gonna go out and get one in the near future but I want to have good time to plan and research and I might as well start now.

So, I don't have endless experience with reptile ownership but I own a bearded dragon that I have had for 11 years this year. I also do have experience in handling bigger (not reptile) animals and animals that bite, kick and scratch, you name it. I know you can't set one group of animals behavior and needs up against another but me as a person, I would say am decent at gauging how to handle an animal.

This animal would sort of be the heart of my home, say instead of a dog or a cat. I don't expect it to jump up on the couch to be scratched lol, but I would like a bigger species with some presense and personality.

Some specifics

-Exclusively herbivore or +Insectivore. No vertebrate feeding.

-The enclosure itself cant cost a limb to build/buy/keep up. I expect it to be costly due to size and obviously enrichment, but you know what I mean? I would also really like tips on how to go about these things, I've been looking into fenced aviaries but I don't know if that could work..

-Free roam once in a while is kind of a must. I don't want something thats gonna be stressed out of its mind walking on the floor.

-I would like to be able to handle it without stressing it up

I've considered a species of iguana or a monitor but I would really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences and your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.
