Hi friends! Okay so my girl (10 months) recently started to exhibit the extreme desire/attempt to dig intermittently throughout the day, every day. She’s not gravid yet, she has a perfect bill of health as of a few weeks ago, husbandry is correct so she just seems to want to dig as beardies do. I went with topsoil/play sand. I fully sifted and baked/sanitized the topsoil and very thoroughly washed the sand then baked that as well… then mixed it up and put some in her enclosure to see how she does with it. She had no interest at all in eating it, did one or two exploratory licks… then immediately started digging. I observed her for a few days to see how she was with it, then added the rest of the substrate to the entire enclosure. I will keep a watchful eye on her in general of course, I just have one specific thing I’m hoping someone can give me advice on.
While she is digging she is sticking her head/face partially into the substrate and comes out with it covering her entire face. My concern is regarding the nose and eyes, anything I need to do on my end (besides the obvious monitoring to make sure nothing is stuck anywhere)?
Also, any other advice, constructive criticism or education about anything I mentioned is welcomed and encouraged! Thanks 🙂
