I just bought a nice big new tank for my boy. Here's some info:
- Repti Zoo 85-gallon glass terrarium
- Dimensions are 48" x 24" x 18"
- Hinge door with screen ventilation (not sure if this is useful to you)
I've only had a 45-gallon in the two and a half years I've had him (rather tiny, I know, hence the upgrade). I have questions I'd appreciate you helping me out with! I'm sorry there are so many, I'm just trying to upgrade as much as I can for my guy.
- How many basking bulbs should there be now? I am guessing that a larger tank won't be able to capture enough heat from just one bulb...?
- Bulb wattage? I use a 150-watt bulb right now. Anything lower than that doesn't give me the right basking temp.
- How long should the UVB strip be? I thought I heard somewhere that it generally needs to extend to 3/4 of the tank...?
- Your favorite, most reliable UVB strip brand/type?
- Lastly, should the basking fixtures be attached to an overhead fixture--as in, hanging from equipment and shining down? I've always just propped my basking fixture on top of the tank screen itself and it's doing fine, but I've read that some beardie parents are uncomfortable about that being a fire hazard.
- Also, what is your preferred/reliable tank cleaner? I've gotten some stuff from various pet shops (one of them was Wipe Out, I think) but I'm always afraid to use store-bought cleaners because chemicals. I've just been spraying cold water and wiping down. Is there a more natural alternative, or just a brand that you really trust?
