So a friend of mine wanted to give away her dwarf bearded dragon I choose to adopt it. I am experienced in building enclosures but until now only aquariums and paludariums for my tabasco mud turtles. The enclosure I built is 1,2m (3'11.25 feet) in length and width and has a height of about 1m or 3'3 (Hope I am getting this right with units). It's build of plywood with glass on two sides and a self build structured background. The enclosure is build as a bioactive setup.
I am very happy with the outcome. For lightning I have so far two UVB/Basking spots (50w and 70w) to provide basking heat.
In the last few days I tried to figure out how to heat the rest of the enclosure. I want to have on average a temperature of around 27.5 °C / 80 °F. The room in which the enclosure is set up has a average temperature of 20 °C / 68 °F.
I did some testing with the 50w basking light but I don't think it is quite enough to heat the enclosure (or even the basking spot... The bulb is around 30cm/12" from the basking spot and I measured only 23 °C / 73.4 °F so I think I need to lower the distance a bit more). The 70w spot will be delivered in the next week.
What can I do to get more heat in such a enclosure? Thank you very much!
