Due to personal reasons I had to move out of my parental house quickly and I took the cheapest and earliest available appartement. Problem was that it's an old building and has a small lethal spiral staircase and it's impossible to carry my reptiles big enclosures up there. If I had a big window I'd hire a moving company but unfortunately my windows are too small to fit my enclosures through. I talked to my step-dad about it back then and he said I could leave my reptiles in his care while I'm looking for a better place to live. The appartement hunt has been going rather slow due to other personal shit. Life gets in the way sometimes. I went to check on my scaly babies after a few weeks and now I realize I should've checked on them sooner but my step-dad said it was all good. He's not a nice person and now I fear for my reptiles health and safety. They didn't look good and the enclosures were filthy..
I want to take them in my current place because I'm scared they'll die if I don't act quickly but I'm not sure how to go about it. Could anyone offer some advice please? I was thinking of buying small enclosures for temporary use until I find a better place and can upgrade their home as well. But how small is too small? And how long can I safely keep my reptiles in enclosures that would be considered way too small? Please don't attack me, I'm just very concerned about their life and I'd feel better knowing I'm taking care of them myself again. The staircase is a real issue though and I measured it up a bit and I can fit a 3 feet enclosure through it, but barely. I do realize 3 feet or less is too small for most reptiles, especially an adult bearded dragon and a blue tongue skink but I don't know what else to do. I don't have friends and I called my brother but he can't take my pets in either. I'm seriously freaking out. Please tell me what I could do? I really don't want to give my pets up because I've had them since they were babies and they're family. I do plan to upgrade their enclosures again once my living situation gets better but until then.. I'd greatly appreciate kind advice and please don't tell me I'm an irresponsible owner. I've had setbacks in life and I'm dealing with it the best I can while doing right by my pets. Thanks for reading if you have.
Short version: can I keep my reptiles in enclosures that are too small for an emergency situation and how long can I keep them in it while I take care of my shit and can upgrade their homes again?
