Hey does anyone have any advice on how to bond with my baby beardie? He's around 5 months old (I'm estimating) and I've had him for 2 months now but I'm struggling to bond with him.
He's my first reptile and I'm still getting used to everything. I had a top opening tank at first and it wasn't the easiest to work around but I do hand feed him bugs sometimes and tried with fruit but it didn't work.
I just upgraded his tank to a front opener and also moved his location so I'm trying not to stress him too much rn cuz that's a big change plus he just started a shed and is obviously annoyed by it.
I honestly just have no idea what I'm doing. I've looked up tips but I'm very nervous about doing something wrong. Many tips just say to take them out for 15 minutes a day but he's pretty skittish, fast and small. No way he'll let me hold him without escaping. He'll let my hand get pretty close to him but if I get too close he'll gape at me as a warning. I try gently touching his tail(from an angle he can see what I'm doing) to slowly get him used to me before attempting to pick him up but he usually ends up running away.
That usually makes me stop because I dont wanna cause him to freak out more by chasing him around the tank. Dont want that to make him trust me less or bite me.
I've never taken him out to bond because I don't have much space and he would probably end up bolting under the bed. (We're moving soon tho so that may change)
I'm sorry for the length/all the detail but I do love the little guy and I want to do well at socializing him but I am not confident yet.
