Hello all,
This is my first time posting in r/reptiles so I will do my best to make sure this follows guidelines.
Long story short: a close family member had this bearded dragon for a few years and did not have a proper habitat for him, provide proper dietary needs, nor care for him consistently in any way. He was surrendered to me about three weeks ago. I have taken him to the vet a few times and he suffers from MBD, is currently on critical care vegetarian mix, pain medicine, and calcium syrup. He had an X-ray performed as well.
I have never cared for a bearded dragon before but I do own a 2 year old female leopard gecko. I have done as much research as I can into habitat, diet, and have followed all his doctor's orders to the T. I also built him a new platform and essentially cleaned out his entire tank and bought new dishes, the carpet and the tile.
My question for you all is: I noticed his tail has a discoloration about 2/3 of the way up close to the base, and everything past it is this white, very crinkly-to-the-touch texture. I don't believe it to be shed? It's almost like feeling the husk of a shed from my leopard gecko. The vet did not remark on this, but we have also been concerned about more major health issues such as his weight and bone disease. The dragon is of unknown age but we assume he's around 4-6 and he is male.
(The photo where he is threat-displaying is after I fed him his meds so he's a little cranky.)
Thank you so much.
