I have a male hatchling Australian Water Dragon (SVL is approx. 3.5in) and sometimes he will bob his head in an odd fashion. He will lower his head very slowly and then jerk it up quickly and this is usually followed by a stilted, jerky, fast wave of his arm, but it stops when he has his hand up, he doesnt do a full wave. He just jerks his hand up, lowers it down, then does it again. Any time I try to look anything up about this particular behavior I get almost exclusively results about adult bearded dragons bobbing their heads really fast. My AWD often does these two things one after another, a few waves, a few weird head bobs, repeat. It seems counter intuitive because my understanding is that the head bobbing is to show dominance, but the hand waving is submissive. I'm not sure if these specific head movements mean something different or what he could possibly be trying to communicate to me. Any help or insight would be appreciated :)
